The chamois is a cloven-footed mammal, a mountain goat-antelope. It averages about 29 inches (75 cm) at the shoulders and weighs 66-110 pounds (30-50 kg). Chamois has a slim neck, short head and long pointy ears. Both sexes grow horns of about 9 inches (25 cm). Chamois inhabit Europe and Asia Minor.

Chamois inhabit the Alps, the Dinarides, the Tatra and the Carpathian Mountains, the Balkan Mountains, the Rila–Rhodope massif, Pindus, the northeastern mountains of Turkey, and the Caucasus. It has also been introduced to the South Island of New Zealand. Mainly they prefer high forest belts and may migrate higher in summer and then return back to the forest in winter. Chamois hunting is a classical mountain spot and stalk hunting. As a rule, it takes only a couple days and thus can easily be organized as a weekend hunt. It also combines well with the other mountain species.
