Moose Hunting

The moose (in North America) or elk (in Eurasia) belong to even-toed mammals. It is the largest and heaviest species in the deer family. Males are over 7 feet (over 3 m) high at the shoulders, their body length reaches almost 10 feet (up to 3 m). The weight can reach up to 1,500 pounds (700 kg). Most adult male moose have distinctive broad, palmate (in the shape of an open hand) antlers. Their spread reaches up to 71 inches (180 cm). Moose typically prefer forest areas of the Northern Hemisphere in temperate to subarctic climates. This includes Europe, North America, Asia from northern Mongolia and northeast China and to the north Siberia and Pacific coast, also Kazakhstan. In Russia moose is distributed up to the Rostov region in the south.

MOOSE HUNTING

Though a moose might look somewhat clumsy, it is a very agile and quick animal. It is also a great runner and swimmer. Even a brown bear doesn't always venture to attack an adult male. Hunting moose by calling during the rutting time is an unforgettable hunting adventure. An experienced guide can mimic moose vocalizations and make a trophy male come out for a shot. Also moose can be hunted by spot and stalk. Sometimes dogs are used for hunting. Driven hunts can be organized in some countries.
