Distribution: The Alps of southeastern France, northern Italy, Switzerland, southwestern Germany, western Austria and Slovenia.
Description: Shoulder height 28-31 inches (71-79 cm). The horns of male chamois reach up to 9-10 inches (24-26 cm). Winter coat is very dark brown to black, contrasting sharply with white areas on the head, throat and rump.
