Distribution: Cougars are found only in the Western Hemisphere. They occur in the southern half of British Columbia, southwestern Alberta, the western United States from the Rocky Mountains to the Pacific, the entire middle United States, and throughout Mexico and Central America. Also found throughout South America.
Description: The second large cat in the Western hemisphere. Weight 100-150 pounds (45-70 kg), sometimes more. The coat is thick and short, and varies from brownish-gray to tawny.
CITES: Appendix I (Protected Species). Requires import and export permits.
