Distribution: The forest elephant lives in the rainforests of western and central Africa.
Description: Shoulder height 5-1/2 to 9 feet (170-280 cm). Weight 2,600-8,000 pounds (1,200-3,500 kg). Forest elephants are smaller than African bush elephants.
CITES: Appendix I (Protected Species). Requires import and export permits.
