ALTAY ARGALI Hunting

Distribution: Altai Mountains of western Mongolia, then extending northward into the Gorno-Altai and Tuva republics of Russia, westward into northeastern Kazakhstan, and southwestward into northern Xinjiang.

Description: Altai Argali is the biggest wild sheep in the world. Shoulder height is about 48 inches (122 cm). Weight 400-450 pounds (181-204 kg). The longest horns of record measured 71-3/4 inches (182.2 cm) (1973). Bases exceeding 22 inches (55.9 cm) have been recorded. Horns and skull, without the lower jaw, can weigh as much as 75 pounds (34 kg). General color in winter is light brown tinged with gray.

CITES: Appendix 2. Only an export permit is required. These species do not require an import permit (only in some countries that have adopted more strict rules)
