Introduction

With a rich and at times tumultuous history stretching back centuries, the land of the tsars is a fascinating land to explore. Russia is a biggest country in the world and covers up to 1/8 of the Earth’s land surface. This expansive area allows it to neighbour more countries than anywhere else on earth, as well as touch twenty-two bodies of water and hold twelve seas within its borders. Most of the country has a continental climate with distinct periods of warm and cold weather that increases as you travel east. Temperatures for Moscow and St. Petersburg range from highs of 32 C in the summer to lows of -25 C in the winter.

320 mammal species and about 730 bird species inhabit Russia. Hunting is allowed for about 60 mammal species and 70 bird species. Come and hunt Red Stag and Sika Deer (Axis) with us – you will bring home a great trophy and unforgettable memories.

A visa is required to visit Russia. It can be obtained at the nearest Embassy or Consulate.

Body length of the male is about 78-106 inches (200-270 cm), shoulder height 51-50 inches (130-150 cm). Weight up to 750 pounds (340 kg). General color is grey, brown or reddish without spots. Rump patch is large, rusty light in color. Antlers are large and have many tines. Rutting time is at the end of September – beginning of October. The deer are most active during cold fair days, when you can hear their roar from the distance of 3-6 miles (5-10 km).

A large graceful deer with slender legs. It has a small head and elegant neck. Body length up to 59-71 inches (149-180 cm), weight 230-287 pounds (104-130 kg). The tail is rather long, ears large and rounded. The antlers have up to four tines. Rutting time is in the end of September – beginning of November. Early in the morning males start to whistle and roar. During this time they tend to roar within the same “lek”.

Vladimir region is located only 50 miles (80 km) to the east from Moscow. The terrain is mostly plain with low hills. The climate is moderately continental with warm summer and cold winter. There are hundreds of rivers and lakes in the region. The forests cover up to 55% of the region’s territory.

Trophy: Red Deer

Located at the south of Russia, the distance from Moscow is 470 miles (756 km). The terrain is mostly plains with foothills at the east, south-east and north. Bounded by Azov Sea at the south. One of the largest European rivers flows here – Don. The climate is moderately continental. The weather in fall is sunny and without winds. The region mostly lays within the steppe zone.

Hunting during the rut
The hunt starts early in the morning. The hunter hides near the lek and waits for the trophy male to come. Stalking hunt is also possible. It harder but it is a real adventure. Organized at the peak of the rutting time when the males are very active and sensitive. When approaching the trophy male the hunter needs to imitate the sound of the deer crashing the bush. The deer tends to come out to meet the "rival".

Hunting during the rut
The deer roar mostly in cold clear evening starting with the sunset and till midnight and start again at about four in the morning until the sunrise. Hunting from a high-seat: organized at feeding spots or near the usual track. In fall the animal tends to feed at night. After the snowfalls start the deer come out to the feeding spots all day round.

Driven hunt
This deer hunt is organized during the day after the snow covers the ground. This allow to track the deer and handle the driven hunt.

Route

First you will need to arrive to the capital of Russia – Moscow. After finishing all custom formalities you will be transferred to the hunting region.

  • Vladimir region – Sika Deer: A short car transfer is required to the hunting grounds (the region is only about 50 miles or 80 km from Moscow)
  • Rostov region – Red Deer: You will need to take a short domestic flight to Rostov (about 2 hours). After that you will be transferred to the hunting area by car.

  • Rostov region – Red Deer: Comfortable two-storey hunting houses.
