Mid-Caucasian Tur huntin Russia

… Now we come to a perspective from a much more “seasoned” veteran of the mountains. Joe Crawley (MO) sent in a report and photos from his most recent international hunts for mid-Caucasian tur from the Republic of Kabardino-Balkariya and Low Tatra chamois from Slovakia taken in late 2012. These two animals bring Joe up to 23 species of Ovis and 28 different species of Capra. There is no doubt Joe is headed for 30-30. Here is what Joe had to say: In September 2012, I traveled to Russia to hunt mid-Caucasian tur. I booked this hunt through Stalker Group and I cannot say enough good things about them. As you know, Anna Chepiga is one of the owners. My guide on this hunt was Alexey Alexeev. It was very hot and the tur were up very high. We did see five or six males, but they were nothing I was interested in shooting. So I returned home with no tur.But after getting home and thinking about it, I decided I wanted to go back in November, which I did. I shot a very nice tur on the third day of the hunt. I would like to reiterate that Stalker is a first class operation.… Originally published at the Slam Quest #166.
